HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU!

Thanksgiving is a happy start to the holidays in our house. This time of year brings together families and friends of all shapes and sizes to cherish good memories spent together. One of my favorite things about this time of year are the fun traditions that come. Since being married, Trevor and I have started to blend together a few traditions from each of our childhoods and creating new ones all our own.

One of those traditions we created together is the Thanksgiving “Christmas Tree Shopping”.

Blog-055__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerIt is no mystery that this time of year is in short supply of green trees. Fall has faded and the snow is setting in! We are getting ready for the holidays and buckling down for some chilly months! So finding places to shoot that still have the beauty of outdoor natural light and a beautiful backdrop can be a little tricky. ESPECIALLY when you consider that for most formal sessions, the snow and weather can be scary for a bridal dress!

So here is an option for brides and photographers alike to consider! Try shooting in a parking garage. Yes, you might think I am a little off my rocker because when you think of a beautiful bride you don’t think a parking garage is the most romantic of locations. But hang with me. This idea is not new, many photographer in the last few years have realized parking garages are beautiful natural reflectors, they can utilize the light being bounced by neutral concrete making flattering light for portraits, not to mention you can avoid muddy hem lines that you would get this time of year in a snow soaked field.

Engagements-158__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerI don’t really know where to start with this one. I love building a connection with each of my brides and getting to know them as a bride and groom couple. Well it makes it a whole lot easier to get to know your bride when that bride is your very own SISTER!!!!  Yes that is right, my little sister is getting married.

I know I sound like a ridiculous older sister, but this is just plan crazy to have my little sister getting married. When did my tom boyish little sister grow up into this college age beauty? She can sing, she is the track star of our family, speaks cantonese, and can cook some pretty amazing curry. She is my little (but taller) sister. And now she is getting married.

Formals-174__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerThey returned from their honeymoon on a Caribbean cruise and we got ready for Brittanie and Shaun’s formal session. This after wedding season was exciting because it gave me a reason to hang out with these two again. Formal sessions are an amazing tradition that I found brides in Utah want. They are a must have on the brides list. And it makes perfect sense. Why not get back into your dress, this time without the stress of a wedding and just enjoy time being married.
It is easy to talk to Brittanie and Shaun as we walked around the gardens shooting. We talked about their fun time in the Caribbean, plans they have for the upcoming months, and how much fun their wedding day was.

Engagements-061__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerBen and Alissa are two different personalities individually but seem to fit together seamlessly. When I first heard that Alissa and Ben were getting married in Farmington, I assumed Farmington, Utah. But when Alissa told me it was Farmington NEW MEXICO I was happily surprised! I grew up in Farmington (New Mexico). Only a handful of people know how delicious Hatch Green Chiles, Si Senor’s sopapillas and how beautiful the  radiant sunsets can be. I feel like I could talk to Alissa for hours about home and life in Salt Lake. We grew up just a few miles apart, but never knew each other until we lived a few miles apart in Utah.
