Temple-295__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerOne of the best parts about a wedding is having all your loved ones gather together. It is hard to get our little family together as we are split right between Texas and Utah and that isn’t an easy day trip!  So as Katelin and Brayden’s wedding got closer I started to get more and more excited because that meant I got to be around my siblings and their kids again. (I *might* be biased, but I have the cutest nieces and nephews. I LOVE being fun Aunt Breanna to those kids!!) Family started to arrive in San Diego and wedding anticipation was in the air.

Katelin wanted a small wedding without the fuss and frills of a large party. She never really cared much of the world of wedding blogs or Pinterest. She is one of the MOST genuine and caring souls in the world. As she was engaged, I asked her if she was excited for the wedding. “Im more excited to just be married” was her reply. Although she might disagree, I think she is one of the most thoughtful brides in the world.  A wedding day is a fast moment in the timeframe of a marriage. Making a meaningful life with a husband together is much more important.  She held on to that focus as she carefully thought about how she wanted to celebrate her day, and I had to be careful not to get carried away with the “wedding party” things.

Formals-224__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerI have been most anxious for this post for a long time! Katelin and Brayden started dating and I was skeptical as I think as all older sisters usually are. That is not atypical right? As Katie talked about Brayden, first he was was the “cute boy from school”, then it was “this guy that she was hanging out with”, and before we knew it was “her boyfriend”.

It has been fun to see how this relationship has grown from the beginning. I forget the nervous energy that there is when you are first starting in a relationship, My little sister was my college roommate when Trevor and I got engaged so she saw my constant texting, was there for the long chats about where our relationship was going and if I was ready for marriage.  And now to sit on the other side of the table and see Katie go through makes me think we have come full circle. And I kinda love that fact.

Europe__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerI feel like I have been keeping a secret for far too long!!  Life is about to get a little bit crazy here in the McKendrick household and BIG life changes are coming! I told my mom that Trevor and I had a big announcement and quickly realized that if I was going to start off that way, I needed to preface, with “No, we are not expecting”.:)

Ever since Trevor and I got married, we talked about taking some time to travel. We wont be young forever, we do not have a mortgage or have started having kids yet. We are in a flexible and wonderful stage of life that we know wont last forever. We both have traveled throughout the US quite a lot and have loved our adventures together! My parents were fantastic and made sure that as a family we took trips in the summer time. We have jumped in our van and road tripped to Chicago, Memphis, Washington DC, Atlanta, California, Oregon, driving along the highways of the midwest and  stopping at *almost* every national park along the way. But the world is a big, BIG place and we have talked about going to Europe for a long time! And I have NEVER been before!!!

Shoot and Share__Breanna McKendrick Photography_Utah Wedding PhotographerIn 2002, I was a freshman in high school sitting in Ms. Stackhouse’s photography film class. The class was filled with a majority of Juniors and Seniors who had seniority over the underclassman in selecting their schedules and it was easy to feel like the uncool freshman sister to everyone in there.  Each week, we had a new assignment to focus on, loaded our rolls from the stock of film and placed them carefully in our cameras. We shot, developed and made out prints during the week and finished the assignment by placing them in mats to hang on the critique wall.  “Cookie Critique” would come every friday like clockwork.  Each member of the class got to select another peers photograph and give a simple critique while the class munched on the cookies that Ms. Stackhouse brought in. We would go around the room until all photographer had been looked at by the class.
