I met Amber and TJ up one of Utah’s beautiful canyons this last month for their family portraits. The leaves had already fallen, but that didn’t stop us. I knew up the canyons there were a lot of vibrant evergreen trees t which would create a perfect mountain scene for family pictures. I was a little worried for the session because I knew Amber and TJ new baby boy was just a little tiger and being so close to winter, I worried how cold it would be for him! If there is one think I have learned, it is cold babies do not make for good pictures! Which I can’t blame them!

Luckily for me,  Amber was a very prepared mother! She came with binkies and blankets to wrap up little Trey in between poses to keep him warm and happy! (Seriously, mothers think of everything!) And that is how he stayed for most of the session! Trey was so mellow and happy, which gave us a lot more shooting time that I have originally planned and we got a lot more images because of it!

I can only image what it is like to be a mother for the first time, letting tiny little fingers grasp onto your relatively ginormous pinky and having your heart surrenders all barriers of love. But looking at these images gives me a small little feeling of the joy it must be.

Although, I do consider myself a photographer that specializes in weddings,  I strongly believe that families should have their picture taken often!  Your children are only going to be newborns once and your toddlers will look up to you as their invincible super hero for only a little while longer. These are beautiful memories that I believe in treasuring. I want to help make these memories into beautiful art for your home and spectacular family heirlooms.

So, for the time being, I will be booking more small family sessions. I will have a limited amount of family session I take on each month, as to give my brides the experience I want to deliver to them without sacrificing quality. So if you feel like you are interested in having your family in front of my lens, feel free to contact me.

People love fall leaves.  Parks, canyons, mountains are always packed with photographers once the bright orange and reds flame in the sun. Fall time is one of the most popular times to take picture because of the beautiful new colors.

So does that make me a little weird that I love taking pictures just after the majority of the fall leaves have fallen???  It seems like some of my very favorite session happen in the time of year! Aslyn and Ryan’s engagement session was no exception!

I have loved getting to take engagement pictures of my 2014 couples and getting to know them even better! Aslyn in an incredible photographer herself and has such a keen eye for all things whimsical and romantic! Ryan is confident and calm, but has a smile that melts when he looks Aslyn in the eyes. It doesn’t take a lot to get these two to laugh and snuggle. All the signs of love that makes my heart warm. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening than hanging out with Aslyn and Ryan in the fall stricken Kerby Orchard!

Canvas Blog Post-13PinI am sure my wedding photography was bitting her lip when I tried to email her asking if we could take prints OUT of my wedding package. Yup, that is right, I wanted to take the included prints out! Oh if I could go back in time and talk myself out of such nonsense. Luckily for me, our wedding photographer did.

Everyone wants digital files of their wedding, family session, senior session etc.  And trust me, I am all on board for letting client have digital images to use in our digital world!!! I do give digital files to all of my clients for all of my sessions! I know that you want to share your pictures with friends on Facebook and Instagram, and please do!

But with that said, there is something wonderful about having your beautiful images printed professionally, creating fabulous art for your home! These prints are there to help remember a piece of your vows when you walk into a room and see one of your wedding photos.  They are there to help us cherish our smiling family as you pass down the hallways on the way to the laundry room. Having these prints and canvases are some of the reasons we go out of our way to get our picture taken!

I  have done a lot of research into companies that I trust printing my work. I spend hours upon hours culling through pictures and editing them to be their best. I want your prints to reflect that time and effort that has gone into making them spectacular. If you really want beautiful artwork to hang in your home, you may want to consider getting a canvas made from your session! Let me show you why!

Canvas prints beautiful ways to display your loved ones and memories. The image is printed on an art canvas which will be stretched onto a solid wood frame.

One sign of a great canvas is the corners. You want a tight corner that doesn’t bulge and is professionally finished. The image will wrap around the 1-2 inch side creating a lot of depth to any wall.

This woven texture!! It truly makes your images feel like art to be shown off.
Canvas Blog Post-11

I look for canvases that have finished backs. No ugly staples, nails, or untucked edges to stick out. These canvases have a black backer board with the hanging hardware already placed in the center of your canvas. All you need is a simple nail in the wall and these guys are up!

Every canvas print is finished off with a clear acrylic coating, providing a very scratch resistant protective layer with a satin luster.

Simply put, a canvas is above and beyond the typical print. They are everything in one. Beautiful art, image, and frame all wrapped together.

Oh how I am glad that my wedding photographer convinced me to keep print in my wedding package.  As a kid, I remember into my parents bedroom and seeing a 11×14 image of their engagement photo (Dad, young with a full head of hair and when my Mom with her Farrah Fawcett styling!)  Now I  have my wedding and family photos in my room, for my kids to eventually laugh at (for how hip and cool we were, and still are!) and for Trevor and I remember what it is like to be two kids crazy in love.

Think you want beautiful prints and canvases in your home? Contact me! They can be in your home before you know it!

Thanks to Jeremy and Natalie’s and their wonderful family session shown all over this blog post and on these great canvases!

(Prints are currently optional and can be added on to any of your sessions)

The Workshop ExperienceYou may remember a few months back that I mentioned a trip I took to Virginia to attend a photography workshop with Katelyn James, one of the two photographers that I hold as a gold standard!

I stumbled across Katelyn’s blog a few years ago when I was roaming the vast expansion of Facebook. I read a few of her blog posts and was hooked! Katelyn’s blog is a breath of fresh air for someone like me who was/is using ALL my spare time to soak up everything photography! I not only loved seeing her beautiful images, but she answers questions and give advice from her experience from shooting 30-40 weddings a year!

Well, Virginia is a far ways a way from Utah (over 2100 miles away to be more exact!). So I did not know many people who had heard of Katelyn, UNTIL I met Brooke! Brooke is a wonderful photographer friend of mine, and it turns out that we both have been reading Katelyn’s blog for a while! Dreams of going to her workshops were soon placed in my head by Brooke and when Katelyn announced her Sept 2013 Workshop, Brooke and I knew we wanted to go!

The workshop only had 12 available seats for registration and I was nervous that the odds were not in our favor to claim TWO of those seats! The morning of registration, my computer was up and waiting for the registration page to become live! My whole morning took 4 times longer to get ready because I could not pry myself from this chance to register! I got up and brushed my teeth, and reloaded the registration page. I showered and reloaded the registration page, I gathered my things for work and reloaded the registration page. Just as I was headed out of the door to work, Brooke called. IT WAS LIVE! I jumped (literally) back into the house, and signed up right away. Brooke and I got our two seats! We were headed to Virginia!!

Workshop-2

Well, the workshop was wonderful! I learned so much about how I wanted to run my business and how I can deliver a better experience to my wonderful brides! We got to be in Katelyn’s home, see how she works, and what lessons she has learned over the years. It was truly motivational and inspiring for me.

As part of the workshop, we got to participate in a stylized shoot and photography along side Katelyn! The session was just recently featured in the fabulous wedding inspiration blog Ruffled!

The images on Ruffled are Katelyn James’, but now that they have been published I can share with you my own from the same shoot! It was fun to see 12 photographers’ different shooting styles, lens choices, and how we made our shooting decisions. I appreciated even more that each photographer is different and strive to embrace the things that make Breanna McKendrick Photography unique.

BEHIND THE SCENES!!!

Here are a few behind the scene shots from the day!  It is a little amusing to see so many cameras at one couple.

Workshop-11

We were quite the paparazzi.  Workshop-55

We all got our head shots taken by Katelyn. I have a few of mine up on my About Page.
I really love this behind the scene. Turns out a bedroom makes for a lovely spot for beautiful head shots.
Ps- I think her dog Bokeh is adorable.
