Over the last year, I have really started to pay attention to what I call the “details” of my business.  Details that will give each and everyone of my brides a beautiful wedding experience that they deserve. So, I set out this year looking to update my packaging to match my branding.

I created custom Client Sites for each couple and blogged about those recently. Even though I love my client sites, I still want to give each couple something tangible. A physical copy of all of their images. I think it is fair to say that DVD and CD’s are falling to the wayside and Flash Drives are becoming more and more useful. So I set out to find some great and beautiful flash drives to give to my brides!

Engagements-001
The weather has been warming up and we all have been itching for spring. People were out and about on the lake, canoes in hand, camping chairs and fishing poles set up. Michelle and Kevin got out of their car in the parking lot of Tibble Fork. Thank goodness they did. It was easy to spot them in a suit and dress, perfect paired together.  I have a “spill” I give each engagement couple that I get to photograph. I want each couple to know that it is ok if you feel nervous before a session! I get that way every time I step in front of the camera. Don’t believe me, just ask Logan and Amy.

However, Michelle and Kevin acted like pros. They did not seem in the least bit nervous at all! They let me know that they have seen my work, and trust me to make the session a success. Insert sigh of relief. I love to hear this from my brides and grooms! I got my “romantic-game-face” on and started to work my magic with this beautiful light with this beautiful couple.

I boarded the plane to fly to Albuquerque, New Mexico. All of my camera gear stored safely in my carry on camera bag. I literally did not let go of the handle of my camera gear until I had climbed in the rental car. (I am a little neurotic sure, but who can blame me! I even had a dream last night that my 24-70mm f2.8 lens shattered RIGHT before family portraits for a upcoming wedding! Photographers worst nightmare!)

It was so refreshing stepping off the plane in New Mexico. When all of Utah was still buried in snow, clouded with inversion, New Mexico was bright, warm and sunny. I instantly remembered all of the reasons I love New Mexico, and one of them is their weather. You just can’t beat it.

Engagements-043

My parents moved to Houston Texas when I was away at college in Utah. I would joke with them about how they were moving to another country filled with cowboy pride and lone stars. Well, it was not until I came to visit the state itself that I realized that people LOVE Texas. Even just getting off the plane, you know you have arrived. (That might have to do with the statue of a cow in a NASA suit putting the Texas flag on what looks like the moon right in the middle of the airport… So Texas in so many ways.) The drive from the airport to my parents home is cluttered with lone stars on signs, underpasses, cars, billboards, logos, etc. This state is well branded! We wont even begin to count the Texas flags that are in those mega-huge car dealerships. I have never seen a sea of flags like that before.  So when Dana and I met we connected over Texas. We talked of southern BBQ, and the little that I know of Texas from visiting my family over the years and Dana’s experience of growing up in the heart of it all. (She has some fun stories of  pranks in the pastures and other ranch-like hooligan behavior).

Do I get nervous before a session. Yes. There is something about meeting a new couple that puts excitement butterflies in my stomach. But this session with Amy and Logan was unlike any other session and the butterflies were in full flight all day!

Amy and Logan-058

I have been working on a few new branding projects lately! I don’t want to give away too many surprises, but I have spent a lot of time creating a wedding magazine to give to each of my new brides, new packaging and a promotional video explaining a bit about the wedding experience with Breanna McKendrick Photography.  Yes, you read that right. For the first time in a long while, I was on the other side of the camera, and my nerves were all over the place!
